Italian delicacies for Germany

The transport service provider Torello from southern Italy specialises in refrigerated shipments throughout Europe. The company has had a close partnership with Krone for more than ten years.

P
armesan, Parma ham, fresh fruit, vegetables and meat “made in Italy”: the Torello transport company also brings these delicacies to German delicatessens and supermarkets so that they can be purchased here. “We are a 360-degree provider of logistics services throughout Europe. In particular, our customers’ goods that have to be transported chilled have the highest requirements in terms of freshness and safety”, explains Umberto Torello, Chief Operations Officer of Torello. “That’s why we put our trust in Krone as the partner for our vehicle fleet.”

VERY RELIABLE AND PUNCTUAL

Torello’s customers are mainly large national and international production and distribution companies. They depend on the transport company for high reliability and, above all, punctuality. The service provider offers an all-round package from the receipt and processing of orders through to management, the storage and rearrangement of stock, the transport of outgoing goods and, upon request, packaging too. With over 1,800 employees, covered warehousing space of 100,000 square metres, including 9,500 square metres of refrigerated space, and 2,700 vehicles in its fleet, Torello is flourishing.

473 trailers have been supplied by Krone, 451 of them are refrigerated boxes. Temperature-controlled shipments are one of the main areas of the company's business. To mark the tenth anniversary of its collaboration with Krone, Torello picked up 50 new Cool Liners from the Lübtheen site – and the fleet continues to grow. After all, Italy is one of the big refrigerated trailer markets in Europe. Maximilian Hunfeld, Area Sales Manager and the person responsible at Krone for the Italian market, and Stefano Savazzi, Director Sales at Realtrailer, say: “Torello is one of the most important logistics and refrigerated goods specialists in Italy and impresses its customers with uncompromising quality. We are therefore delighted by our continued close collaboration, as we are certain that both companies will continue to grow together.”

COLLABORATION BETWEEN FAMILY-RUN COMPANIES

Torello, Krone and the Italian Krone importer Realtrailer are linked by a history that goes back over more than ten years: the Pigozzi family, which is behind Realtrailer, introduced the Krone brand and its owners to the Torello family. “As so often in life, the good connection between two people was the basis for a professional relationship extending over many years”, explains Antonio Torello, Chief Transport Officer of the Torello Group. His father, Nicola Torello, founded the company in Montoro in Campania in 1975. Today, the siblings Umberto and Concetta run the company, alongside Antonio Torello. Many positions in the administration are also occupied by family members – which means that the values of the company are maintained and carried forward extremely effectively. “The quality of the vehicles and, of course, the values that the family-run company puts into practice soon impressed us, and since then we have been a loyal customer”, says Antonio Torello. “The refrigerated vehicles offer excellent quality and the various types of equipment that Krone offers make our day-to-day life much easier.”

EXTREMELY SUSTAINABLE WORKING PRACTICES

Sustainability is particularly important to the family who runs the company: they are aware of their social responsibility in their business activities and have introduced sustainable solutions that reduce the emissions of CO2. These include particle filters, which Torello has retrofitted to all vehicles that did not already have them. The average age of the vehicle fleet is just three to four years – 85 percent meet the Euro 6 standard. Torello is also making increasing use of intermodal transport: “Any shipment that can be moved onto the railways contributes to climate protection and to improving quality of life”, stresses Antonio Torello.

The Italian delicacies arrive at one of the big distribution centres in Germany after a journey of several hundred kilometres. From there, they are re-distributed to the branches of individual retailers, where customers can buy them fresh. “Of course, we are delighted”, says Torello, “that we can play a part with our services in making such special products from Italy available throughout Europe and, thanks to optimal transport, they taste just as they do here in the south.”
